STANDING STANES by Robert BallantineThis political comedy was originally written as a screenplay in the 1980s and had its first public airing at a rehearsed reading at Dundee Repertory Theatre. The reading, presented by Dundee Playwrights Workshop, mostly featured actors who were in a production of John Byrne's "CUTTIN' A RUG" . Alan Cumming and Forbes Masson's portrayal of the characters Freeman and Smithson was a memorable feature of the reading. After receiving a commission from Siege Perilous, Bob adapted the piece for the stage during 2011. In May 2012, the Siege Perilous production of STANDING STANES, directed by Andy Corelli, had a highly successful run at the Malmaison Hotel, Leith, Edinburgh. The Malmaison production featured actors Derek Banner, Laverne Edmonds, Mark Kydd and Matt Robertson, all playing a variety of roles.
